Lone Survivor

A story about  4 veteran Navy SEAL on an important mission.

This movie highlighted many lessons which we can derive from such as loyalty, perseverance, trust, ethics and belief.

There’re many sacrificial scenes in this movie and it brought upon to me about the intangible treasure that we come by everyday. Friendship and loyalty.

Ethics came into play when the commander of the 4 man team had to decide whether to kill the 3 hostages because they belonged to the same group as their enemies. If they are set free, they could react with violence or report the situation which jeopardizes their safety and mission. If the other option was chosen, the team can continue with the mission with their safety not compromised. It’s a tough choice to make.

I like the scene when the main lead had to decide whether to trust the commoner who belonged to the same group as the enemy. It showcased the stereotyping mindset which is prevalent in our society where people are judged based on their background. This view is unfair because everyone of us are unique. We think different , act differently and we have a mind of our own. It’s not fair to judge based on background. Luckily for the main lead, he decided to take a leap of faith and was protected by the commoner and his villages. A really touching scene.

Overall, it’s a good movie to catch with your buddies as it’s able to bring out the aspect of brotherhood with a good mix of action. However, there are some scenes which were pretty draggy which might bore the audience. Do note that this movie is M18 and it’s probably due to the violence and realistic bloodshed involved.

The verdict : 3.5/5

There is getting more and more Japanese food stalls in heartland hawker centres. Tried the beef ramen in miso soup which cost $7.90 nett! What a bargain for a price for a bowl of ramen as it’ll usually cost about $15 per bowl these days. Went to look up more information about this stall and realised that it’s opened by the owner of Astons.( http://ieatishootipost.sg/2013/11/aji-ichi-best-beef-donburi-for-under-8.html) Pretty cool venturing into the increasingly popular Japanese cuisine among Singaporeans after establishing Astons as an affordable western franchise.

The Ajisuke Tamago (Japanese soft boiled eggs with the yolk half cooked) yolk isn’t half cooked and the quality of the ramen isn’t as chewy as those which we can expect in Japanese restaurants. However, they are generous in the portion of beef slices they gave and the beef is tasty! Overall, this is a good place for someone who wants to crave his ramen and has a tight budget. Would want to try the Nabemono which serves 3-4pax ( Pork : $39.90, Angus Beef : $49.90, Assorted : $59.90) the next time round!

How efficient can you read?

Whether it is in work or school, there’s always reading involved. With the pile of data/reports/articles we need to analyse nowadays, it’s mentally draining going through all these information. Information is so accessible nowadays with the internet. However, not everyone reads with the same pace and how much they absorb differs. Speed reading is a useful skill to maximise productivity and time.

Try this test from  from Staples’ eReader Research Center  to gauge your speed reading ability!

2nd Attempt at Driving Test

Failed my 2nd attempt at TP. There goes my time and money again. Pretty disappointed that I couldn’t get my license this time round as everything was great during the warm up. I’m still not convinced for failing my first test but for this 2nd attempt, I’m convinced by the mistake I made (the immediately failure ) and thus gotta swollen the disappointing result. It’s damaging to a man’s ego for not passing TP on the 2nd attempt as most people pass it on their second. Hah but it’s okay as I’m sure I’ll able to get something out of this failure.

Similar to school-wise, practice does not guarantee success but having a prepared and strong mindset before the fight does set us up for victory. However, the thought of the potential cost involved if I failed made me nervous prior to the test. Guess I kind of lost the battle even before I started as I didn’t prepare myself mentally. Complacency it is.

Anyway, I’m touched by the encouragements my friends gave after knowing about my failure. This may seem mushy but their encouragement and concern made the failure worthwhile. I’m someone who believes in peer support and thus their support really meant a lot. I’m really grateful to have friends that care and I surely cherish them. 🙂

8th May is my next test and this time round I’m sure I’ll be able to lay my hands on the license! Not gonna give up 😉

That Awkward Moment

That Awkward Moment (2014) Poster
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1800246/

Rating : 6/10

A romantic comedy movie which showcased awkward situations. There aren’t many “awkward” scenes as indicated by the title. Commitment, Support, devotion and the “unexpected loving your good friend” are highlighted in this movie.

After watching this movie, it had me thinking about the importance of commitment and support. Support is the utmost important aspect in a relationship which is shown when Ellie’s father passed away and Jason ( who’s man pride didn’t allow him to succumd to his emotions ) didn’t attend the wake to support Ellie due to a bet he made with his buddies in staying single. I totally agree with the importance of support in a relationship and it’s interlinked with priorities. What’s the point in being with someone who doesn’t prioritise you?

Devotion is highlighted in this show as well through Mikey. Despite his wife filing a divorce with him, he remained devoted and decided to ignore the fact that his wife was seeing another person and made amends to their relationship. Although it didn’t work out in the end, he remained forgiving and didn’t seek revenge.

Ever wondered whether is it possible between your good friend and you? Well, it did happen in the show. Some say your best friend will be your best partner while there are differing views towards it. Personally, I see it as a possibility.

With every relationship comes with different stories. This movie does not have a rich storyline but it did touch on some relationship issues which we faced in our daily lives .
